The Swiss skiing star Marco Oder, finally, added Kitzbuel to his list of victories at the World Cup on Friday, winning a supergiant race saturated with events at a cult Austrian resort, where several riders were seriously crashed.
It was the 44th victory in the career of the skier, which dominated the World Cup races for the last three seasons, but Oder did not finish better than the second of the 10 previous starts on one of the most difficult track routes.
“For me it was a very solid race. I tried to act smartly, this is what it was needed today, ”Determatt said to Austrian television. “I think that on each section of the highway some racers were faster than me, but the race is who is the fastest from top to bottom.”
Rafael Haaiser lagged behind Odermatt by 0.11 seconds and became the second in the first race of the Austrian after an almost six-week break due to an injury. Switzerland's teammates Stefan Roartin and Frano von Allemen took third and fourth places, respectively.
The top 10 included two skiers from Canada: Kam Alexander from North Vancouver took fifth place, backward from Dernmatt by only 0.60 seconds, and Jack Crawford from Toronto finished the eighth, lagging behind Alexander by 0.09 seconds.
The race was repeatedly interrupted after the riders crashed, especially when Alexis Pinouro was shot down from the air route due to a clear injury of the right knee.
At the entrance to the left turn, the Pinthuro ran into unevenness, and his right ski hit the gate before he slipped from the highway. At first he got up, but again lay down and knocked on the right knee, when doctors came to him.
The Pinthuro, a three-time Olympic medalist, who won the general championship of the 2021 World Cup, participated only in his eighth race since he returned after a 11-month break due to the injury of the left knee.
“There are so many accidents, especially Alexis again, it hurts,” Odermatt said, adding that he tried to choose a more rounded track on the site where many crashed on icy irregularities.
Odermatt increased his leadership both in the overall standings and in the disciplines. He became the only skier who won the second victory in this discipline this season, after there were four different winners in the first four races of the super-giant.
The racers who took the second and third place in front of the hill in the standings of the Super Gigant, Vincent Krikhmair from Austria and Fredrick Meller from Norway, did not start a week after they both had an accident on a high -speed descent on another classic highway, in Hungen.
The super-giant opened the 85th classic Hanenkamm race, which also consists of high-speed descent on Saturday and slalom the next day.
